Overview of Foxnet

What is Foxnet?

Foxnet is an initiative that operates free, invite-only communities built on top of popular open-source software and open protocols.

In practice, Foxnet makes services accessible to its members over the Internet, free of charge. Imagine Foxnet like Google, the company: Google provides services like Google Search, Google Docs, and Gmail to its users, just like Foxnet does to its members on a much smaller scale. Google is run by a for-profit corporation, while Foxnet is run by a single individual.

The software used for Foxnet’s services is not developed by Foxnet; Foxnet only hosts and curates instances of already available open-source software.

Why is Foxnet Free?

Above all else, Foxnet is a passion project. For me, the host, joy is derived from seeing people use something that I put together myself instead of the Big Tech alternative, even if no money changes hands.

Of course, the infrastructure behind Foxnet is not free to maintain; if you would like to contribute, you can learn more about donating here.
