An account is manually created for new members when they are onboarded. In the context of this page, "joining Foxnet" means having a Foxnet account created for you. Anyone is free to join public Foxnet spaces, member or not. ## Joining as a Friend of an Existing Member If you are friends with someone who's already part of Foxnet and you would like to join too, you can ask your friend to vouch for you to become a member. ## Joining as a Newcomer If you are otherwise interested in Foxnet, it is important that you first [familiarize yourself with the initiative](/docs/getting-started/overview/). Foxnet operates a Matrix homeserver, but it is *not* just a Matrix homeserver in itself; rather, it is a community built on mutual trust between members. Part of this trust is based on the fact that Foxnet does not knowingly welcome individuals who might bring harm to the initiative. As an effort not to undermine this trust, anyone who wants to become a Foxnet member must, at a minimum, introduce themselves and the motivation behind their decision to join. This can be done in one of the following ways: - by sending an email to ; - by messaging the host on Matrix at [@rlarosa:foxnet.systems](https://matrix.to/#/@rlarosa:foxnet.systems); - by joining the Foxnet community room on Matrix at [#community:foxnet.systems](https://matrix.to/#/#community:foxnet.systems) and greeting the wider community.
